Competition Time
Moggy & Betty Moore were two of the founder members of the rekindled Wellworthy Angling Club back in 1987. Following his untimely death caused by a stroke back in March 2004, an inter club fishing match was organized as a memorial to Moggy and to raise money for Weymouth’s disabled angling boat “The MV Freedom”. Moggy Moore was a popular and very well known angler.
2006 - Local clubs, Portland SAC, Weymouth Angling Society, Dorchester SAC, Weyrad SAC, competed in the 1st year against Wellworthy Angling Club for the Moggy Moore trophy. Weymouth won the 1st match in 2006 and after the raffle a cheque was raised and presented for the total of £450 to the Skipper, Pete Targett.
2007 – a sum to beat Moggy’s daughter set about gathering prizes again determined to beat last years figure and raise lots of money knowing her dad would be proud of her. A further fishing club, Heron SAC joined in to try and win the Moggy Moore Trophy this year but the competition which took place on Chesil beach on 24th March was won by Wellworthy Angling Club.
After the raffle and match fees a cheque for the sum of £901 was presented once again to the Skipper, Pete Targett.
2008 - Tickets are already on Sale for 2008’s competition and raffle with the hope of beating the previous sum and the continued help of those who kindly donated this year. So far prizes have been kindly donated by Shakespeare Fishing equipment, The Kingswood Hotel, Bi-Orb, Exeter Race Course, Tefal to mention just a few.
