Activities for the disabled Weymouth

First published August 20, 2015

MV Freedom is a Motor Vessel that cruises with Disabled Adults and Children from the age of 5 and the elderly enabling them to experience the freedom of the sea.

She is based in the very quaint Weymouth Harbour, which is in the heart of the beautiful Jurassic coastal waters of Dorset.  Weymouth is a very flat seaside town which makes it ideal for easy wheelchair access to the sea front and local shops.

MV Freedom has been adapted to take six wheelchairs with a total of twelve passengers – plus three fully trained crew.  Trips can be to Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Portland Harbour which was the home of the 2012 London Olympics Sailing events.

We are a registered charity of volunteers – and have been cruising with the disabled since the 1980’s. The service we offer puts the safety and enjoyment of our passengers first, whilst at the same time providing stimulating opportunities to improve confidence, communication, learning and development,      e.g. through helming the boat, rod fishing, finding the dolphins and much more under the guidance of our skipper and crew.

Our skippers and crew look forward to welcoming you, or you and your carers on board and taking you on a sea adventure – this season we have seen Dolphins, Huge Jelly fish, Little Terns, Herring Gulls and Black Backed Gulls.

We ask passengers to book by phone – This allows us the opportunity to speak with individuals and tailor make our trips, so that everyone’s needs and expectations are met.  Please see our Facebook page and website www.mvfreedom.co.uk  for further information. To book call 07974 266867.

Anyone wishing to become a ‘Friend of MV Freedom’, or train to crew with our experienced skippers, or just have some fun helping us to fund raise just call Meridy on 07974-266867

You will be welcomed and valued.
